I tend to avoid any topic that seems to bring out the confrontational side of others. I am a peacekeeper / people pleaser to my heart (and most often, to my detriment). I keep my opinions to myself, regardless of how strongly I may feel them, in order to avoid coming across as preachy or [...]

(Sorry if this gets repetitive! I’m gonna announce this twice a day until the sale’s over) This is just an afternoon reminder that Echo 1 is FREE right now for four more days (not counting today) while Echo 2 & 3 will be $0.99 for the next week! So if you’re thinking about buying any of the Echo books, do it now! If you didn’t already know, science has shown that 78.35% of all homo sapiens who haven’t read Echo are 56% less likable and 83% less intelligent. Follow-on studies have concluded that if you happen to be a man, the length and circumference of your genitalia are statistically more likely to be three inches shorter than the genitalia of men who HAVE read Echo. The p-value used in these studies was .00000000001, so make sure if you’re a man, you don’t let down your partner, your children, and your…

I'm going to have two titles for sale at the AJC Decatur Book Festival this year!! I've signed up to be included in the Emerging Authors tent (scroll down, I'm in the 'E's). I didn't get a speaking time this year as it's my first year and I want to get a feel for how [...]

From our friends at Rose Metal Press:
AUGUST OPEN READING PERIOD
From August 1 through August 31, we will be having an open reading period for full-length hybrid and cross-genre manuscripts. We are interested in short short, flash, and micro-fiction; prose poetry; novels-in-verse or book-length linked narrative poems; flash nonfiction or book-length memoirs-in-shorts; fragmentary works and book-length lyric essays; image and text collaborations and other collaborative work; and other literary works that move beyond traditional genres to find new forms of expression. The best way to see what we mean by hybrid is to take a look at our catalog. We welcome submissions in all styles and on all subjects, and encourage a broad and expansive interpretation of hybridity. Surprise us with your innovation! Manuscripts selected from this reading period will be published by Rose Metal Press in 2019 and beyond.
Manuscripts should be 48 pages or longer…

This definitely hit home as both my sales and reviews are LACKING! Great post!
I didn’t intend on posting again today but one of my favorite authors posted something to her IG that sparked something I had to share. As you see above, this author is Bernice McFadden and this is her sharing the rejection letters she received for her novel Sugar. I have this book as well as her novels This Bitter Earth, Glorious and I’d like to get my hands on Nowhere is a Place and The Book of Harlan but I digress. Needless to say, the writing is on point. Long story short, you all know that Sugar has gone on to do very well despite the 75 (yes, seventy-five…let that settle) rejection letters. For Indie Authors, we may not be looking for publishers, but we have rejection letters too. I want to encourage you not to give up when you get one:

The only “serious” author I’ve ever read; his work is often grittier than I can handle, but it’s so well written, it seems a sin not to share.
Dancing with a switchblade provides some of Truman’s most mature work to date where the burning rage of youth begins to make way to a better understanding of the trappings of the world.
Openly influenced by the likes of Al Purdy and Charles Bukowski, it combines influences from some of the world’s best lyricists in the likes of Henry Rollins, Trent Reznor or Johnny Cash.
This collection is a celebration of all things of life: hurt, pain, anxiety, beauty, love, fighting the good fight, sticking to what you know and doing more with less. Most of all, Dancing with a Switchblade is a celebration of the creative act of writing and hopes to provide an enduring snapshot of the working class today.
You can find it HERE! at ten poems a buck for over 100 pages of poetry for 2.99 US.

July 18, 2017 A long, long, time ago, in a galaxy far away… Ha, yeah. There’s no comparing this journey I’ve been on to the epic trials and tribulations Luke had to endure on his way to Jedi-hood. But it’s close ;-). What am I talking about, you ask? I’m talking about the day I [...]
