My Great Loves

This struck me awhile back and made me wonder how many people in the world get to say that they were able to find some type of closure with the great loves / mega crushes of their pasts?

I was able to do that with four of my five and quite frankly, I find that amazing. Wonder if I can turn it into a novel?

A – first ever crush, 1972-73.

J – first ever boyfriend, 1975 – 1982.  Reconnected summer 2000 and I told him how’d I’d felt all those years ago. He effectively ended any further communication by walking past me as if I wasn’t there with a woman pregnant with his child, fall 2000.

A – second boyfriend of importance, 1978. Reconnected at some point in 2010.  Met for lunch a couple of times, I was able to tell him how I’d felt all those years ago. Communication ended 2012.

T – major school girl crush, 1979 – 1984. Reconnected fall 1988 (?). Hot mess, but I was able to tell him how I’d felt all those years ago. Communication ended 2012.

G – second college boyfriend, 1986 (on again off again friends 87-92). Reconnected spring 2014. In touch to this day; was able to tell him how I’d felt all those years ago.

The one that got away? I could reach out to his mom and inquire, but meh. What would be the use at this point. From what I understand, life didn’t turn out so well for him and there’d be nothing I could bring to the table that might make it any better. At least, not that I know of. Oh well. Haven’t heard that he’s dead, so as long as we’re both on this side of the daisies, I guess anything’s possible.

How about you? Any childhood crushes or ‘long lost loves’ you were able to reconnect with?

  1. There’s really only one that haunts me, but he’s happily married to a fantastic friend of mine from high school. We would never have worked out for so many reasons. Ha!

    1. Ha, indeed. I often wonder what type of person I’d be had I ended up with any of them back when we first “hooked up.” When I see how lives turned out, I don’t regret the break-ups at all, lol.
